Handmade European Tissue
The Mill produces a range of handmade archival tissues for conservation use. The tissues come in a variety of tones, weights & strengths & are available as both wove and laid sheets.
Tissue Uses
Sympathetic repairs can be made to aged paper by choosing an appropriately toned wove or laid tissue.
Tissues can be used for guarding & page repair.
The stronger thinner tissues can be used for making new joints for old books.
Tissues can also be used for warping boards for new bindings.
The heavier finer tissues can be used as endpapers for small books.
Tissue Properties
All Griffen Mill tissues are easy to handle when wet.The long fibres enable the tissue to hold its shape & allow it to be needled or wet pulled for joining strength. The character of the tissues are similar to European papers as tissue is made in the same way using the same fibres.
Jute Tissue being strong & malleable can also be used to rebuild damaged heads & tails of book spines.
Conservation Quality Leaf Casting Pulp

The Leaf Casting Pulp is easily broken up on rewetting & can be used in leafcasting machines or as moulding or infill material when mixed with a small amount of glue.
